Bioderma and Garnier are the most recommended cleansing products for all skin types and has been proven to be the most important part of your skincare regimen. These skincare brand giants produce sunscreen creams, body lotions, and facial cleansers that get rid of the dirt you either find accumulated on your skin during the night or after a long day at work.
The use of Bioderma or Garnier cleansers on your skin is a very effective way to remove makeup residues, thereby clearing your skin pores.
But, which one between Bioderma and Garnier is better than the other?
A considerable advantage of Bioderma is that its facial cleansers moisturize and leave your skin softer than Garnier facial cleansers, which smoothes your skin. The Bioderma micellar water for example, has some silky texture; this can also be expected of its’ other products. Both the Bioderma and Garnier cleansers are gentle enough to remove some makeup effectively and efficiently.
Let’s face it! Makeup residues can potentially harm your skin, leaving it prone to other debilitating skin conditions such as acne skin breakouts, eczema, and many other skin issues.
So, it is always important that you should invest in a good micellar cleansing product that will remove all the daily grime and makeup.
Two of the best options that can effectively clean your face are Bioderma and Garnier. Are you having trouble picking the ideal one brand? We can help.
In this article, we will be comparing micellar waters from both of these brands, to help you choose the suitable one for your skin.
Is BIorderma better than Garnier?
When it comes to the comparison of micellar cleansing waters, Biorderma is better than Garnier, and for a couple of reasons.
First off, the Garnier micellar waters are said to cause irritations, particularly on sensitive skin while the Bioderma offers other micellar products that are suitable for all skin types, without causing any side effects or skin irritations.
As such, the Micellar water molecules tend to pop on the head, even though the label on the products clearly states that the product is hypoallergenic (in bold text actually).
Contrary to that, Garnier is a very affordable pocket friendly brand, and its micellar waters come with a bottle nozzle, which is flat so the pour is more effective to which you can easily control, hence you probably could probably use this 200 times (as the brand has suggested).
Bioderma vs. Garnier: Micellar waters
Both Bioderma and Garnier are great brands that have specialized in micellar cleansing products. If you are not familiar with what these products are, then I will give you an in-depth understanding of how they work and how you can use them.
But first…
What is a micellar water?
Micellar Water is simply defined as a cleansing water that works on removes makeup while giving your skin a general cleanses.
Unlike ordinary face washing or cleansing products, micellar waters do have an advantage. What differentiates a micellar cleanser from an ordinary cleanser is the fact that you don’t need to rinse your face after using a micellar water product.
How do micellar waters work?
MIcellars work similarly to how cleansers work. A cleanser mainly works at clearing your skin pores, taking the dirt, extra oils and make up residue with it.
Eventually, this gives you a clean skin that is less susceptible to acne breakouts caused by accumulation of dirt and oils in the skin pores.
Also, when you clear your pores, you are creating a smooth skin area, onto which other products will be applied and absorbed into the pores easily.
Besides that, micellar waters have other great benefits, especially hydrating properties. When you use micellar waters, you are giving your skin enough hydration that is capable of sinking in to the dermis.
This is actually the largest layer of your skin that consists of blood vessels, hair follicles as well as oil glands (commonly called sebaceous glands).
The dermis is also where the body stores the collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins that allow the skin to be intact as well as elastic.
With that said, this is the layer that is responsible for the wrinkles and fine lines. Also, the dermis layer consists of nerves that facilitate senses such as pain, tough and temperature changes.
What are the Benefits of using Micellar Waters?
- They are effective in removing foundation
- They can eliminate waterproof makeup around the eyes
- Fresh feeling after use
- Skin hydration properties
- Antioxidants
Now that I have given you an idea of what micellar water products are all about, let’s get into the product comparison and see what to choose and why.
Bioderma
Known for its versatility, the Bioderma micellar water is an ideal product that can be used on all skin types, including the sensitive skin. This is one feature that has made Bioderma very popular in this field.
The bioderma micellar water comes is free of fragrances and parabens, which is brilliant as most products with parabens can be really harmful to your skin, and can contribute to the development of serious conditions such as cancerous tumors and other skin damage illnesses.
Texture
The bioderma micellar cleansing water has a light and smooth texture, which doesn’t weigh your skin down nor does it clog your skin pores- I mean, come on. It says “water”, right?
That said, you should always distance yourself from the pore-clogging products. An excess accumulation of such products can lead to a breakout, leaving your skin with acne scars that will probably take a couple of weeks to treat.
After you apply this micellar water on your face, you will instantly feel fresh and clean, but even though it is does state non-rinse, you can still wash your face after a while, just to give it that extra cleansed feeling.
Downside
The only downside of the Biorderma micellar water has to be the nozzle. When you are pouring on to cotton face pad, it free flows, so make sure to keep this in mind when you are using the cleanser.
On the other hand, when compared to most micellar water products, this turned out to be a slightly expensive product. If you are on a lower budget, the Bioderma micellar water may not be for you.
Garnier
Coming at an awesome price of £3.33 for 400ml, the Garnier micellar water is clearly a much cheaper option that the Biorderma version.
Despite the price diff, the Garnier Micellar water too is used in the same way as the Bioderma. This product has a lot of great reviews on great results and for the fact that it is easy to apply.
My favorite part about this products is that you get about 200 uses, according to the brand. But, in order to get 200 uses you only need to use about 2ml on a cotton pad.
I wish they would be more precise on the number of drops that can be, don’t you? But, I would say about 3-5 drops- just a calculated guess.
Unlike the nozzle on the Biorderma, Garnier offers a better nozzle. This bottle nozzle is flat so the pour is more effective to which you can control, and if you can control the amount of product that you pour at a time, then you are well on your way to achieving the 200 uses as suggested by the brand.
Texture
The texture of the Garnier is not very different from the Biorderma water. It is also very lightweight. Combine this factor to the “better” nozzle and you have a product that is very easy to apply.
Downside
Even though the Garnier cleansing water has a better nozzle and it comes a cheaper price, there is a downside, and I’m not going to sugarcoat it.
Even though it states clearly that it is Hypoallergenic (in bold text actually), a lot of users have indicated that the product has made them feel “as if the Micellar molecules where popping on their heads”.
Some of them even had to grab a fresh cotton pad in order to wipe off the excess cleansing water. Others have even said that the product has caused strange irritations, and all these factors point to one single fact; the Garnier micellar cleansing water is not suitable for all skin types, especially the sensitive skin.
This has left a lot of users very disappointed, and on the verge of switching to a new cleanser.
Regardless, Garnier is a very affordable pocket friendly brand that you can carry with you on anywhere.
Conclusion
So, out of the two, we know that the Bioderma is indeed better than the Garnier. I mean, Yes, the Garnier micellar water has a better nozzle, and yes, it comes at a ridiculously low price.
But the Biorderma is suitable for all skin types, so rest assured, you won’t have to be dealing with any “micellar molecules” or any unwanted irritations, let alone acne breakout occurring.
But don’t get me wrong, the Garnier micellar water has some serious game too. It comes in a pocket friendly package, which makes travelling feel like a breeze, and it give you some great cleansing benefits while providing you with hydrating properties to keep your skin looking healthy and happy.
According to this review, I would give the bioderma micellar cleansing water a 9/10, and the Garnier micellar water falls at 4/10.
